Unfortunately, the most common initial step in changing or upgrading a shower is to change the brass valve in the wall (behind the control handle). This usually requires a few minor alterations to ensure good connections on your new valve. Fortunately, this valve change only involves minimal opening of the wall - usually only removal of the existing shower control handle and external components - to access most showers’ valves.
If you already have a Kingston Brass valve, then you should be able to just replace the trim on the outside of the wall to restore or update it.
