To build a frame for drop-in tubs:
- Measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of the tub lip and add 1/8”
- Your support structure including the finish surface (Marble, Granite, Tile) should equal that measurement plus 4”
- Measure the length and width of the tub at the height parallel to the bottom of the lip.

-
- Apply 4” of mortar or a lightweight mortar mix such as Structolite or similar, making sure to leave the area around your drain uncovered
- It is advisable to cover the mortar base with a thin sheet of 6 mil poly plastic sheeting prior to setting the tub; this will prevent the tub from sticking to the mortar base.
- Most tubs require approximately 5-50lb bags of mortar but we recommend that you confirm the coverage of the mortar you will be using.
